Genitourinary Pathology

Research and clinical expertise in prostate, bladder, and kidney pathology, including PTEN/ERG profiling in prostate cancer and PD-L1 in urothelial carcinoma.

My genitourinary pathology training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital under Dr. Jonathan Epstein, followed by staff work at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, formed the foundation of a long-term research and clinical interest in urologic tumors.

Research lines:

  • Prevalence of PTEN loss and ERG expression in a Brazilian prostate cancer cohort
  • PD-L1 and interferon gamma expression in BCG-treated urothelial carcinomas of the bladder
  • Mesenchymal tumors of the bladder and prostate
  • Prostatic carcinomas with neuroendocrine differentiation

Collaborative work:

  • Member of the 2019 Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS) white paper panel on prostate cancer grading
  • Contributor to ISUP and GUPS consensus surveys on prostate cancer reporting practices
  • Contributor to WHO Classification of Tumours of the Genitourinary Tract, 2021
